The Honda CRV door before...

Step 1: Utilize the door panel as a template to determine the size and shape of the VB-2HD material to be installed. Using a pencil or pick tool, scribe a line around the door panel onto the VB-2HD sheet. Then, cut the VB-2HD sheet 1/4" in from the scribe line. This will ensure that the VB-2HD will be contained within the perimeter of the door panel.

Step 2: Begin by the installation by attaching the VB-2HD sheet to the top of the door surface. When installing VB-2HD, pull the paper release liner down 4" to 6" at a time to prevent the adhesive layer from sticking to the clean sheetmetal surface.

Step 3: Installation of the VB-2HD product requires a heat gun. The additional heat will allow the material to stretch up to 70% making it easier to conform to high irregular surfaces. Use caution when applying heat to the VB-2HD vinyl, if you get it too hot it will become molten and tear. When installing the VB-2HD material it is best to use your fingers to form the vinyl onto the surface. To make the finished install as clean as possible, work the material from the top of the panel to the bottom and simultaneously from the center to the outside edges.

Step 4: In this application, the installer has chosen to create an access panel to prevent any headaches should service be required on mechanisms inside the door. Notice how the VB-2HD material has been cut along the edge of the access hole opening.

Step 5: Using the piece of VB-2HD removed from the panel in step 4 as a template, place the template on a sheet of 1/8" ABS plastic and scribe a line around the edge. Note the holes cut in the template to indicate where the various mounting points will protrude through the insert.

Step 6: Test fit the access panel to make sure it fits properly and to determine where the perimeter mounting holes shall be placed.

Step 7: Once the access hole insert panel has been treated with a layer of VB-2HD, reinstall the cables and wire harnesses as necessary. Make sure to remove the excess VB-2HD material over plastic trim fastener mounting holes. A unibit multiple step drill bit makes quick, clean work of this.
