Customer Commentary:
Jon R. Whitledge / Scientist, Engineer and Installation Expert
"As a Polymer Scientist and Mechanical Engineer, who is a specialist in the field of viscoelasticity, I intimately understand the nature of composite structures. The goal of any composite structure is to achieve a maximally optimal fiber content, by volume, while maintaining a minimally optimum and uniform distribution of polymeric matrix. Because the fibers behave as perfectly elastic (low hysteresis, not"stretchy") solids and the polymeric matrix is above its glass transition temperature, composites typically possess little internal damping. When I designed the critical composite structures for what The Absolute Sound magazine proclaimed to be "The World's Best Car Stereo", I chose Cascade Audio's VB-FD for incorporation into my loudspeaker enclosures and stereo electronics mounting surfaces. I believe the use of VB-FD substantially improves the internal damping of my composite structures, resulting in noticeably improved sonic performance."

The early stages of the pod construction. The brown, paper-like material shown is the VB-FD damping material that has been inserted in between the layers of fiberglass mat. (above)
Here is a look at the finished pod. The attention to detail is exceptional and the sound quality is unparalleled. (above)
